Admission Preparation

CAT4 (Congnitive Abilities Test)

The CAT4 is a cognitive reasoning test used by many top schools in the UK and UAE to assess potential rather than prior academic knowledge. It covers verbal, non-verbal, quantitative, and spatial reasoning.

At XellED, we begin with a diagnostic to understand how your child naturally approaches each section. From there, we provide targeted training to develop reasoning strategies, build confidence with unfamiliar question types, and practise working under timed conditions — all without overwhelming the student. Our aim is not rote learning, but cognitive readiness.

ISEB Common Pre-Test

The ISEB Pre-Test is a standardised, adaptive online exam used by many top UK independent schools as part of the 11+ and 13+ admissions process. It assesses English, mathematics, verbal reasoning, and non-verbal reasoning, usually taken during Year 6 or Year 7. Many students encounter this style of testing for the first time through ISEB.

We ensure students are not only familiar with the format but fully prepared to perform at their best. Our support includes concept reinforcement in English and maths, guided practice in reasoning, time management techniques, and mock test simulations. Our approach combines academic support with exam technique, so students feel fully prepared on the day.

Interview Preparation

Admissions interviews — whether for UK boarding schools or selective UAE schools — are designed to explore a student’s curiosity, communication skills, and personal outlook. This may take the form of a one-to-one conversation with the Head or an informal discussion with a member of the admissions team.

We work closely with students to develop authentic, thoughtful responses while improving clarity of expression and interview presence. Our sessions focus on building confidence, listening well, and articulating ideas without sounding rehearsed. The goal is not perfection — it’s presence, poise, and personality.

Essay Writing

Essay tasks are often included as part of entrance assessments or school evaluations, asking students to respond creatively or analytically to a prompt under time constraints. It’s an opportunity for students to demonstrate structure, originality, and control of written expression.

At XellED, we teach students how to plan effectively, organise their thoughts under pressure, and write with clarity and purpose. Whether responding to a personal question, crafting a story, or analysing a scenario, we help students express themselves in a way that is reflective, coherent, and age-appropriate — without relying on formulaic responses.
